Announcement

Hi all

yup, I have a big announcement - at least I think it's fairly big!

I've been asked to put on a demo/participation game at the Plymouth Association of Wargamers (PAW) Wargames Show 2018.  Essentially this is the other side of the country from where I live but despite the 5 hour drive, I'm up for it and have accepted!

Image result for zombie memesIt's all come about from one of the organisers seeing my ATZ - English Adventure campaign and him asking me to bring a game down, with some of my scenery to PAW in february.  Personally I was really flattered that someone thought my stuff was good enough to be part of their event, so felt happy to say yes.  That said i'm nervous as hell and hoping I don't fall on my ass come February.  I'm going to put on a zombpoc game and it will be participation as I want people to get involved, so I'll have to keep it fairly simple so as to engage as man people as possible but I'm not gonna give away the details of the game I have half planned for a couple of reasons.

  1. I'm not sure how its all gonna work yet, where is it going to be set? what rules am I gonna use? am I going to adapt an existing set or design my own?
  2. I want it to be a bit of a surprise
  3. I'm scratch building the majority of the board so will have to see if I can pull off what I want to do.

I really hope I see some of you down Plymouth way -  3rd and 4th of February 2018, come and support the old Gobbo and have a chat, I'd love to see you there!!

cheers
dGG

  1. excellent news. make it participation, make it last about 45 mins to and hour and a quarter, make it easy to pick up, make it fun and of course it will be beautiful

  2. Sounds cool. Unfortunately it's much too far for me to come down to see.

    Lots of pictures please! ;)

  3. Will see you there mate as its a show I regularly attend. Use your scenery to control the gameplay to aid in the timing of the gameplay

  4. Congratulation on the community's recognition. As they say, "First in PAW, then in Hollywood"
The hardest part is to make a game flexible enough to have player dropping in/leaving, challenging (they may die) and interesting (they don't want to die).
I suggest you build it as a small role play, with preset players with slightly different objectives so people can chat together and have fun if you have to explain the rules engage.

  5. Paramedics on Tour 2018, a bit far west for me but if I'm in the area I shall pop in and encourage as best as I am able.

  6. Superb news and well done you! Are you going to build some terrain that links it to Plymouth? Plymouth Hoe and Smeaton's Tower perhaps? :)

    1. I have a vague plan in mind that I hope will be appealing, although a Plymouth based game would be engaging for locals Michael

    1. Cheers Buddy, shame it's literally the other side of the country for you as I'm sure you'd get a massive buzz out of what I have planned!

  8. Nice one. Congratulations.
Too far south for me, I'm afraid, though Col. Bill's are normally there.

  10. Well deserved Andy. Your ATZ material is by FAR the best I have ever seen anyone do (advice: have some nice copies of your last campaign write up -ready to sell on the day... I bet you will sell out). Plymouth is actually dead easy to get to from here, and Devon is one of my hunting grounds (I used to live in South Devon and in Norfolk before that). We have been deciding (as a group) whether to do Salute, Colours, or Warfare in 2018... basically we want to go to the one we will meet most of you guys (so assumed Salute), but will keep eyes peeled for now and see who is going to what.

    1. Funny you should mention Colours as they're looking for someone to demo Bushido ;-)

    2. Ooooh Bushido yeah? super, even more incentive. Yes Reading is harder to get to but hotel accommodation is right next door to the event so is a big bonus to us. Salute is harder, if you think about it: drive all through the night from here to the airport, check in, wait for two hours (still before dawn), flight across, then negotiate Heathrow, coach and busses to the city proper, then taxi to the Hotel, book in, unpack, THEN find our way to Salute and queue, then walk about for hours, be at our best and try not fall asleep from exhaustion; then repeat it all for the trip home next day, its a grind and no mistake lol. So yeah, ideally we like to tend shows that are easy to get to when ever possible **grins**

    3. Hahaha don't blame you Hils ;-) ** wonders why he's agreed to a show the other side of the country**

  11. Too far "darn sarf" for me Andy, so if you want any play testing done beforehand I'd be happy to oblige.
Which reminds me - I have some "brit" police cars and ambulance if you're looking for donations??

    2. Nott's/Derby's border (Robin Hood territory - or the "Caliver Books, Mantic , Warlord triangle"!)
I'll figure a way to get your address without it going on a 'public board' and get 'em off to you (along with owt else you might be able to make use of)
