Bushido terrain building

hi all

following on from my giveaway on my 100th post post (what?), which you can view here. The winner, drawn from names in a hat (actually the dice bag i use for Bolt Action) is, drumroll..............

Blaxkleric - from the rather excellent Fantorical blog, which can be found here. Simon if you can email me at dagobbosgrotto@googlemail.com then I can arrange to get your loot to you.

Anyway to crack on with todays post.....

During the awful rampant commercialism that is Black Friday, I succumbed to a weak moment and ordered a boatload of Bushido miniatures. I'd been a fan of the GT studio miniatures for a long while, but had never taken the plunge due to cost, lack of players and a huge backlog of other projects pulling at my time. But to my shame I couldn't resist 60% off from Wayland games and shipped a faction into da Grotto, of course I should have bought two..... Anyhoo the miniatures were diverted by Mrs Gobbo and re-delivered for Xmas and formed part of my present.

Fast forward to March and I've completed my TMNT project and my hospital project and even a few TWD conversions, now it's time to start thinking Bushido! To that end and before I start on the miniatures I thought I would put together some terrain pieces.  With that in mind I ordered some bits and pieces off t'internet.

My first purchase was some plastic bamboo, ordered through eBay and from a Chinese company, it was very cheap, only a few pounds for a hundred plants of three different lengths. When it comes it is very green and plasticky however I dipped the plants in a pot of citadel's 'Seraphim Sepia' which toned it down nicely. shaping some MDF I had lying around as a base I then drilled some random holes in it before covering in ballast and cat litter and spraying black. Drybrushing the whole thing with citadel ' Mournfang brown' and hot gluing the bamboo into the pre-drilled holes before adding some scatter to finish it off and you end up with....

more in the production line

on the board, not a Bushido board i'd add....

all in all i'm very pleased with the way these have come out.  Although there are 5 of them i will not be using them as objective markers, rather just LOS blockers and cover.  I'm really looking forward to doing more with this game.

cheers
dGG

  1. Andy, you rotter! Bushido is a game that fills me with so many happy memories. I played a long and extremely memorable Bushido campaign using the original rules by FGU in the 1980's. I still have all my 28mm scale samurai and assorted Oriental figures from that campaign. This was, and still is, a period of history and genre of gaming that fascinates me. I have far too many other projects on my plate to revive Bushido but I will certainly be following your posts most avidly. I wish you every success with this fascinating project.

    2. Thanks Bryan, it's a genre that I have loved all the way back to the 80's too when I had a small Warhammer Nippon army. Ninjas, Samurai and all of that fabulous folklore like Kitsuane is so rich and full of gaming potential. GT studios have really nailed the miniatures, they are amazing and I'm sure other factions will start to creep into da Grotto in time. I haven't put any figures together yet as there are so many side projects that I have, terrain to be built etc but I'm so looking forward to it!

  6. Brill stuff Andy, and many thanks for the plug and prize giveaway :-) I have some "Bushido" tucked away somewhere, so please don't encourage me to drag those minis out and put them at the head of my painting queue ;-)
