A long while ago (or so it seems) I started an ATZ campaign set in England. Due to quite a lot of coursework I've so far been unable to get a lot of time to dedicate to the campaign as the write up is very involved, being as it is in narrative form. For those of you new to the blog or have simply forgotten what has gone previously here are the links to the build up to the campaign and the first part of "Day One"

So on to the next part of my campaign set on the Isle of Thanet. The story so far, for those of you who don't want to go over the old posts - Gobbo and Putters have safely delivered an assault victim that they were dispatched to, to the hospital QEQM in Margate. It is the day after a storm of epic proportions and a massive off-shore explosion on a sunken Liberty Ship carrying High Explosives and other more experimental substances combined to create a tidal wave that cut off the people of Thanet from the mainland.

Since that storm has passed, strange reports are emerging of people being "infected" by a virus that is causing them to attack other people very violently. The infected often bite their victims and many deaths and injuries are being reported. With the emergency services having to rely on resources that happened to be on the Island at the time, which are not plentiful following savage public spending cuts, they are at breaking point. This is compounded by poor communications.
Following an attack on the medics Gobbo identified the infected as zombies, a name that seemed to suit them to a tee.
Following an attack on the medics Gobbo identified the infected as zombies, a name that seemed to suit them to a tee.
The story continues, yes this is still Day One. Gobbo and Putters have just handed over their patient to the doctor....
"Finally we have given a litre of sodium chloride and a gram of TXA IV......" Anna 'Putters' Parker's voice trailed off as she spied a very familiar name written on the large whiteboard that dominated the A&E and gave the patient listing that were in the department. "erm yes we have given a gram of TXA and that's our patient... Doctor, why is my fiance's name on your patient board?"
The doctor, looking mightily harassed and stressed from the last 18 hours, barely glanced up from the patient report form Anna had thrust into his hands. "Who" he asked vaguely, returning his attention back to the form.
"My bloody fiance, CHRIS! BLOODY! PARLOUR!!" each word was punctuated by a jab of her finger to the chest of the beleaguered clinician. "Where is he and why is he here?" Anna spun around, wildly scanning the room trying to spot him in the cubicles that filled the room. "CHRIS!" she shouted loudly, which turned into a shriek as she stalked the room looking for her fiance. The doctor stumbled backwards away from the enraged medic, looking up at the white board as if to will the patient out of thin air in order to placate Parker. "Where is he?" she bellowed at him.
The doctor grabbed a stack of patient records that were balanced precariously on a desk and rifled through them quickly until he found the one he was looking for. Thrusting the paper at Anna, he babbled quickly "He was admitted for a concussion and taken to Imaging for a CT scan - head, from there he was just going to go up to a ward as we haven't got the space down here, we can't keep an eye on people and he was unable to give us information and...." the doc abruptly stopped as the paramedic stalked off toward the doors that would take her further into the hospital. Just as she reached the double doors the PA system burst into life.
"Attention, attention, this is a security announcement. There are numerous "Infected" people in the hospital attacking everyone they can reach. Please evacuate the hospital immediately, I repeat please evacuate the hospital immediately. The Infected folk can be identified by their unusual gait and blank, vacant stare and milky coloured eyes. Please do not approach them, they are exceptionally dangerous."
"Fuck them! I need to find Chris" Putters spat. "Gobbo, please. We need to find him and get out of here!" Andy 'Gobbo' Wosa nodded at his crew-mate and mentor and hefted the Oxygen cylinder that he had used to bash in the skull of the 'zombie' who had attacked him earlier. "Come on then Putters, lets go get him!"
The crew need to locate Anna's fiance - Chris, who may still be in X-Ray which is on the ground floor but could in fact have been transferred to the male ward - Viking which is on the first floor. They then need to escape the hospital in some way. If they do this the encounter would be considered a success. I will be using a bespoke encounter chart that I designed some time ago specifically for this hospital model, unfortunately I can't embed it here because its a powerpoint and is to big a file. The chart features rules for each room, corridors, lift etc. I will be modifying further as it was designed in mind with PCs exploring it for clues on the virus, instead it will be to see if the heroes can find Anna's fiance. If the heroes don't find Chris in the xray or ward rooms then they will have to search the rest of the hospital, hopefully this will lead to them bumbling around the hospital.....
Because Putters is extremely motivated she can add 1 to her Rep for "Citizen Brown Pants" tests in this scenario.
The power is currently on so Lifts are working as are the lights but each turn a d6 must be rolled when determining activation and on a 6 the power goes out for d6 turns until the backup generator kicks in. If this happens LoS for spotting zombies is reduced to 4" and movement is reduced to this. There is also -1 to melee skill when in combat, any ranged combat is an automatic miss passed 4". Zombies are unaffected by the loss of lights. In the basement visibility is reduced to 1" and movement is reduced to this.
The crew start in A&E located on the ground floor.
My apologies for the "difficult to read labels on the hospital maps. Next installment will be the first few turns...
hope you enjoy

Great to see the hospital again and really looking forward to the first rolls of the dice!
ReplyDeleteFirst part should be ready next week I hope!
DeleteI am so glad to see you returning to your ATZ campaign. This ought to be another tense and exciting batrep.
ReplyDeleteFor your labels, which are hard to read, I would have done them in white and positioned them against a dark background - for example, the walls instead of the black and white chequered floor.
I hope so Bryan. Good idea about the labels
DeleteGlad to see this back Andy.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying (groans) to get back to it Rich
DeleteMissed this. More, gimme more
ReplyDeleteIt's happening Martin, it's happening :-)
DeleteGreat looking set up, and engaging background Andy keep up the great work (Hope essay writing is going well )
ReplyDeleteNearly there with the essays Dave, only one more term to go and I'm free!
Deletejust in time for you to paint all the models you pick up at Salute then ! LOL
DeleteAh zombie time :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I read X-Ray room I automatically though, radioactive zombies :)
Lol, as if zombies aren't nasty enough....
DeleteWhat a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteZombie filled Phil
DeleteThat's brilliant! Look forward to the next instalment!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it Gordon, should be next week
DeleteI really love that hospital!
ReplyDeleteThanks mate, it took quite a bit of time and effort but worth it imho
DeleteGood to see the hospital once more, and looking forward to seeing the batrep :-)
ReplyDeleteYup, thought it better get some usage Simon ;-)
DeleteMakes me wanna play. Torn between painting and also having the game up for a few nights is hard with little one around
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky in that way, I'm playing 20 mins here, half hour there
Deleteda Gobbo Grotto wasn't there something about you wanting to play a 7tv game, couldn't you use the hospital as some kind of evil HQ or something like that, I don't remember what type of 7tv game you had in mind, or at least I don't recall it.
ReplyDeleteTMNT for 7TV and I'm building sewer terrain for it at the moment. It's a great idea for a game though mate, maybe with the Dr Who project or Immortan Drumpf/Dr Evelyn Hill minis
DeleteDr Evelyn Hill and her fembots... well if you even are thinking about getting them, or some of the crooked dice minions :)
DeleteYeeessss! Fembots are going on the Salute shopping list
DeleteFunny thing, I just got my Fembots today along with some minions I ordered from Bad Squiddo Games, I had not expected to get them today and ad the same time as I mention them in your Blog, what a coincident :)
DeleteHahaha an evil coincidence bwahahaha fembots rule!
DeleteLove your boards! Your hospital is top notch and an inspiration. I can't wait to see your batrep, it should be a lot of fun. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks mate, I hope you enjoy what's coming
DeleteGlad you've got back to this; I really want to see where it goes.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying playing the game Kieron, makes me wonder why it's taken so long to get back to it. Then I remember -real life gets in the way!!
DeleteConsider my appetite whetted!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it Clint
DeleteTop Notch. A thoroughly enjoyable read and visual feast. The map icons really helped me to understand the action quickly and easily too, so really nice added touch. Your story telling is on top form too, and your modelling and terrain skills are always beyond excellent. More please.
ReplyDeleteThe next part is primed and ready to go!
DeleteYou saved the best saved until last. Very enjoyable Andy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you think so Hils :-)
DeleteGreat setup, sir.
ReplyDeleteThank you Finch :-)
DeleteThat setup is superb, but then I'd expect nothing less from you.
ReplyDeleteMust be an NHS hospital (not many beds) ;-)
Cheers Roger.
Thanks Roger, sadly the QEQM hospital in Thanet is chronically underfunded so that is a true statement
DeleteLuckily they'll be getting their £350,000,000 weekly increase once we leave the EU (as promised by Mr Farge'). ;-)
DeleteCheers Roger.
Thank goodness for that eh, he seems like a reliable geezer, one of us really - he must be he drinks pints.....
DeleteGreat to see the return of the Hospital, I'd forgotten just how great a model it was; now looking forward to the scenario.
ReplyDeleteits coming on Thursday mate
