I'm busy looking for ways to improve my modern urban boards, ostensibly for my upcoming debut at the PAWs show but also for my continuing ATZ campaign. I want my boards to look authentic and urban terrain by its very nature is busy so I need lots of it! I'll try to make as much as I can, particularly the buildings but some of the finer detail is a bit beyond my skill or desire to make so I'm gonna buy some stuff in. With this in mind I've been scouring the interwebs for bargains and found my old friends - Debris of War and Blotz.
First up is Blotz, this UK company is making some lovely mdf products that are simple to put together and look fab. Among other things I bought two phone booths, one modern and the other the traditional red telephone booth.
for painting these beauts, I find adding watered down PVA glue to the undercoat stops the mdf drinking up the paint.

These are fun little pieces that will "litter" **sighs** my boards, the bins are cool and will populate the tenements and alleyways with the discarded matresses.

Along with Dave Stone's lovely flaming barrels I'm starting to get some really cool layouts going. More pieces are on the way from all sorts of other companies and I look forward to seeing them populate my boards.
hope you enjoy

Looking good!

DeleteLovely additions.
ReplyDeleteTa ;-)
DeleteVery nice scatter terrain, Andy.
ReplyDeleteI think so mate
DeleteGreat looking additions Andy, if you have blister packs that haven't been thrown away can make great glass for your phone booths
ReplyDeleteFab idea Dave particularly for the modern booth
DeleteNo problem mate glad I could help, you can even do smashed glass with the same
DeleteAll great stuff, and not so much "extras" as "essentials" when it comes to setting the scene and getting 'the look'.
ReplyDeleteThe red telephone box is perfect for a Brit setting, and I can see the 'modern' one appearing on my U.S. table :-)
Definitely essentials mate, I love my boards to have an authentic look so these will help
DeleteMany thanks for the link Andy - I've just ordered my phone box, and while I was there plumped for a shop to add to the MDF buildings (oh, and a little "something else" that caught my eye that I couldn't resist!)
DeleteGreat range of stuff there and added to my "favourites" for future reference :-)
Take note of what Dave Stone said in his comment about the blister pack plastic for glass bud. Glad you found the link helpful :-)
DeleteI like phone boxes.
ReplyDeleteThese are great examples Hils
DeleteWorks a treat. Great, ah, I mean rubbish stuff!
ReplyDeleteLol thanks Roy
DeleteAll really lovely stuff Andy, the phone boxes are fab, now for authenticity you need to make them smell of urine!
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Not sure how I can convey that Roger ;-P well I do know, just not sure I want to....
DeleteWhat a load of rubbish - just what an urban terrain board needs. The telephone boxes look great, but I'd be hard-pressed to find either type in my immediate area.
ReplyDeleteThat's true mate, they tend to be a lot rarer these days
DeleteNice Kipple all set to clutter the board up.
ReplyDeleteMore to come mate :-)
DeleteHmmm "Blotz" terrain, eh? Isn't that the company Clint found and posted about first? ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat looking scatter, Andy :-)
Why yes it is Simon..... ;-)
DeleteLooking good
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil :-)
DeleteO I like those bins'n'stuff. Very realistic.
ReplyDeleteHe makes great stuff mate
