My Broadside

hi all

Just a brief report from Broadside, the annual wargames show held in Sittingbourne, Kent and hosted by the Milton Hundred club.

This is my closest wargames show of any size and I like to make an annual pilgrimage and have a nose through the Flea market and natter with the likes of Clint, Ray and Lee.  This year I was excited to be going up to help my buddy Darius run his stall promoting Uncon 4.0 (November 10/11), the games convention that we've been trying to develop over the last year or two and this year at Broadside we were going to play some gateway games that would entice wargamers.

About three days before Broadside, Dave - one of the organisers put out a plea for clubs to put out a game as he had a dropout.  Ok, I'm not a games club and I was already helping Darius out but I couldn't resist the chance to test out Blood, Sweat & Horses on a wargames community. So, yes you guessed it! up went my hand......

anyway, cut to the day and I turn up with B,S&H and the board games that Darius had thought might appeal and we set up with plenty of time to spare. We went with a nice lightweight game to start with - Scythe!

After setting up, I managed to get around the event before opening and chat with Clint and the Rejects lads before heading back to my table.  I was glad to, because within minutes of the doors opening I had a group of interested players ready to sit down and try their luck. (pictures posted with permission)

James, coaxing his team around the first bend

eyes up the coming corner...

doesn't slow his team down....

and stacks it into the pits...

I didn't get much opportunity to get around the show after that as my game had a steady stream of players, wandering over and giving me a thrashing at my own game....

still there were some very lovely looking tables

sorry I didn't get the names but I'm sure someone will put a name to each game on their (better written) posts.

My final game was with these two herberts....

Big Lee with a very convincing win! Ray ended the race in the pits having tanked his chariot in the final corner.....

hope you enjoy

taking out the trash!

Hi all

When I was at Broadside the other week, I came across a stall with some really interesting resin pieces.  The trader - Debris of War, deals mainly online and obviously some trade shows, presumably in the south as he is based about 3 miles from my house!!

Anyway, you will be seeing some of his marvelous resin bases soon enough when I unleash my new Bushido faction on you all, but for now I painted up some of the modern pieces that I bought to decorate my Zompoc games including the next chapter of Gobbo's English ATZ adventure (coming soon).

Really simple to paint but full of character I took the urban debris set which comes with 5x wheelie bins, a sofa and 2x armchairs and loads of bin liners filled with rubbish!

on my zombpoc board

we all have know one of those families who has the sofa outside the house and a garden full of rubbish!
that's all for today though
hope you enjoy

Broadside 2017

Hi all

a quick post shoved in at the end of a busy day!  Today I've had a rare day off, squeezed in between working yesterday and uni tomorrow, i was desperate to get something gaming in, so I headed off to Broadside - a local show hosted by the Milton One Hundred Wargaming Club.  This was the second show I have gone to by these guys and I wasn't disappointed by either.  I'm not going to do a blow by blow of the day as it's not very exciting to read about and I haven't got the patience or energy left to do it.  needless to say the "bring and buy" stalls were very busy and where I spent my meager savings (certainly compared to Salute! which wiped me out pretty much).

Lootwise - there were no planned purchases as this was a bit of an impromptu visit as i had the time, so they are a bit eclectic but I don't regret any.  The giant greek archer -  I will use in some terrain building projects that are sitting in the back of my head and cost just 20p. Under that is a Rogue Trader Ogryn that I've always really liked and fits with a passing idea of doing some Old Hammer projects next year.  With that in mind I also bought 6 classic Eldar which I used to own and lost many moons ago.  I also got some Kroot Hounds for a Tau force that has been hovering at the edges of my painting table.  Lastly I bought some resin pieces from, what turned out to be a trader who lives in the next town over, running his business online - Debris of War.  From him I got some cracking bits, some urban debris including abandoned armchairs and a sofa, wheelie bins and rubbish bags - perfect for decking out some 7TV ideas and zombpoc games!  But by far my fave purchase was the resin bases he has made up - perfect for Bushido and soon to be the bases for my newest faction that I hope to start after i finish uni.

Highlights for me included chatting to Ray Roussel, Big Lee and Clint - three bloggers of some renown and thoroughly pleasant fellows, playing some fun and light demo games inc Infinity and a Jurassic Park style game and lastly I won the prize draw - a shanty towns set by Battle Systems! as an admirer of the terrain they produce, I'm thrilled to have won the prize.

my prize!
Lastly here are some pics of the tables for the eye candy lovers.  I thought the quality of the tables was excellent particularly for a local show.  I really liked the "not" Star Trek board made up of cheap Poundland "not" Lego toys and Tribbles! Winner of the best board was Big Lee and his magnificent African war board.

hope you enjoy

Broadside!

Hi all

I had a great time this past Sunday at Broadside, a Wargames show hosted by the Milton Hundred Wargames Club in Sittingbourne, Kent.  The show would count as local to me - a mere 35 miles away!

This was my first time at the show, it has been running for the past five years, so I was keen to dive in and check it out. Having been to Salute this year and seen the spectacle that it is, plus all the bargains that I found, I was hoping to replicate this success - albeit on a smaller scale. I wasn't disappointed.

I'm absolutely positive either Ray of "don't throw a 1" blog fame or Clint of "anything but a 1" blog fame who were both there running demonstration/participation games (both very impressive games indeed and thoroughly nice blokes too!) will do a fuller report so I'm just going to post pics of the games and the loot that I found......
bring and buy stalls

main hall

not sure of the game - sorry just thought it was a nice trench section

Shepway doing an amazing city fight in 20mm

not sure who are running this, but the minis are eclectic to say the least - North American Indians and dinosaurs vs Scorpion men and different dinosaurs....

7TV2e game - this was great fun!

VBCW by the Rainham Club and the v nice chap that is Clint

this was a great Jason and the Argonauts skirmish game in at least ?40mm? with home made rules and monsters - was brilliant

Posties Rejects

Lion Rampant

this was teeny tiny 6mm...

this was a wild west game, not sure who or what??

Needless to say the tables were of a really high standard, The games were fun and I indulged in a bit of 7TV2e action as well. Clint's painting really is as good as it looks on his blog, actually that's a lie.....it's much better. Ray's Tangiers regt is droolingly good as was his Moor army and Postie and the boys were a great bunch with plenty of banter - just how I like my wargaming!

Purchases wise I got bits and pieces really, no major factions bought unlike Salute where I got all my Prefecture of Ryu minis. I was disappointed that there was no GCT stuff there at all, so no additions to my Bushido factions :-(  however, I did get some nice additions to my Saga games from Foundry, some Oriental terrain pieces from Ainsty castings at the Colonol Bill stall - Temple dogs and a Buddha, not sure what they'll fit into yet (possibly a new terrain board that I've been thinking about.....) some teeny tiny dice for use as wound/pinning counters and some nice modern figs from the bring and buy stall and a Heroclix of the Trickster to face my Flash 'clix.....oh and i swiped some stirrers for my terrain projects.

All in all a good day, I'll definitely be back!
