Zombtober 2017 - part 1

Hi all

Apologies for the absence and sadly it will probably continue throughout October, with only Zombtober posts being put up, this is due to my limited time as I prepare to become a fully qualified paramedic.

Anyway for my first Zombtober post I have done all of the prep-work for the miniatures that I intend to paint - all 94 of them!!  this included spraying the whole lot with Army Painter "Dunklegelb", a shade of paint used on WW2 German tanks, that I had left over from my Bolt Action army.


I then "dipped" the whole lot of them in a pot of homebrew "almost black/dark brown" wash.  


followed by a heavy drybrush with GW "Rotted Flesh" over all the skin areas


I then covered the bases in another homebrew paint - "textured black" before drybrushing the base with a light grey emulsion


having prepared the minis I then split them into more manageable batches of 8 and have just about managed to paint up 16 for my first post.  I painted all of the minis with a limited palette due to the large numbers that I need to batch paint.  All I have done is the base colours followed by another dip in the homebrew wash and then some Tamiya Clear Red to finish the blood.


I apologise for the overly bright flash as I took these pics late last night on my phone and don't have enough time to reshoot them.

You can track the progress of the horde by looking at the "oh Shit o'meter" below. At the moment Ted and Sean are at level 1.....

    Great start to Zomtober Andy. Buckets of blood is what this challenge is all about imho, and you've got loads on display with this posting :-)

    Cracking start, Andy. You just have to love Tamiya Clear Red for gore effects.

    Great start Andy, your medical knowledge must pay off with knowing where blood pooling and how much spatter you would get with each wound. If you want to do dried blood in places mix red ink with a small amount of black ink this gives a reddy brown colour when dry

    Wow! What a belter of a post Andy!
    Brilliant start to the HUGE challenge you've set yourself, and some great tips in there to help fellow 'speed painters' :-)
    I hope the studies are going as well as the painting mate.

    WOW, your certainly aiming high! Congrats on that & your certainly of to a good start. Now I have to ask about that one Zombie...is that her tongue or is she eating intestines. Just a little freaked over that one.

    You set yourself a big challenge, but looks like your well on target - great stuff. ( like the mega mini zeds as much as any I own.)

      The challenge is the getting the mojo back when it comes to the WGF male zeds which are a little soft. The mega minis are really quite nice mate

    Whilst I appreciate that to replicate the overwhelming odds that face the survivors of a zombie apocalypse, you do need a cartload of zombies, that's quite a target you've set yourself. I wish you luck in your endeavour, Andy, you crazy fool, you. 😉

    Awesome start. Prepping 94 minis is one thing, but then alos painting 16! Maximum kudos to you da Gobbo Grotto. :)
